Tracing the legacy of extraction across land, labor, and lineage.
Generational Mining is a personal and place-based documentary project exploring the legacy of mining in Montana. It began with a move to Montana, my grandfather's 1912 camera, and a quiet pull toward landscapes shaped by immigration, extraction and inheritance.
My grandfather was a coal miner in the pre-WWII boom, and carrying his camera has become a way to trace connections between past and present. As I document company towns and scarred hillsides, questions emerge: How do these landscapes continue to shape the lives still unfolding in the shadows of extraction? What does it mean to inherit both the tools and the weight of this history?
