Edges Of Early Spring

A Five-Frame Sequence from Montana

I've been working on this thing where I only take five frames per outing, then edit them as a sequence. It's supposed to help me think more about narrative and stay present instead of just burning through shots.

I went to Gallatin County Regional Park near my house in Bozeman. Just wanted to walk slowly and see what caught my eye.

Early spring in Montana is this weird in-between time. The trees were just starting to bud, but most of the grass was still that dull brown from winter. A few Richardson ground squirrels were out, probably as confused about the season as I was.

What really grabbed me was this building with these massive satellite dishes on top. They felt so out of place there—all this technology sitting in the middle of this quiet park space. Something about the contrast made me want to shoot everything in black and white.

Five frames from the edges of the season. Trees waking up, grass still sleeping, and these strange dishes reaching up toward the sky. Sometimes the oddest combinations make the most sense in a photograph.
